Self love, acceptance and approval is what we all want and are often told we deserve it but God loves us too much to allow us to suppress feelings of guilt, shame, and even condemnation. The devil would have us believe the lie that those feelings are not real so we should just push them down and out and believe in yourself, something or someone other than Jesus Christ. God's desire is that we come to Him when we feel this way and look to Him for forgiveness, a new identity, and peace even after we know His forgiveness in Christ. God the Holy Spirit speaking through John the Apostle writing to believers says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1John 1:9 The reality is that we all compare ourselves to others and when we do we will either feel better or worse especially if we compare ourselves to God. The devil would have us wallow in our own disgust but God brings us to this very place so we can look to Him and call on Him for help like Job. Isaiah the prophet saw himself in light of God's glory. This was his and God's response.
Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts. Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs. He touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed and your sin is atoned for. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for Us? I said: Here I am. Send me. Isaiah 6:5-8 So it is that Isaiah saw the glory of God and was disgusted with himself and his people but God remedied the very thing Isaiah confesses, his unclean lips. Then he goes from self-loathing to how can I serve you. This is a natural response of gratitude when someone has helped us unfortunately all to often we believe the devil's lie that we can only help ourselves. If you are feeling disgusted today, do not push down those feelings. God has brought them to the surface so you can deal with them, not on your own, with God first and with others who love you. Have great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
