Mark 11: 11-14 New Living Translation 11 So Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples. 12 The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit.14 Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat your fruit again!” And the disciples heard him say it. Time Square in New York has always looked like such an amazing place on TV. The streets, the lights, all the signs and the amount of people we see gathered there for New Years Eve is staggering. But when I went there and seen it in person, I was a bit disappointed. What looked impressive on TV simply didn't look so much so in person.
When I read today's portion of scripture I thought, what did Jesus think this side of heaven of the Temple. It doesn't tell us anything about what He thought, it simply says, "Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon." The temple is essentially God's dwelling place and it has been God's intention to dwell with man since the beginning. God used to walk in the garden with Adam but because of sin, God now dwells in heaven while man dwells on earth. The Hebrews were instructed to build a tent where God would meet them, then Solomon Build a more permanent and glorious structure that we refer to as The Temple but in Christ we are made part of His Body which is the ultimate Temple of God until the day when God once again makes His home here with us. "I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them." Revelation 21:3 If Jesus were to take a walk inside of us what would He find? We may never know this side of heaven but we have some clue as to what dwells in us. We do need to remember that the reason we do or don't do things is just as important as what we say and do.

That was an indictment on the Jewish leaderships' hypocrisy. They were religious (leafy) but no transformation (fruit).
