Sometimes it's easier to sit on the fence. To sit on the fence is a way of saying, I'm not one side of the other. There could be various reasons as to why someone is sitting on the fence. It could be small decision like which flavor ice cream to choose or something serious like life or death. In a real sense what the people in today's reading struggled to decide was life or death in an eternal sense. Let's read today's portion of thelifebook... Just this past Sunday Pastor Don talked about the authority of Scripture. It's not just the New Testament he was talking about either, it was also the Old Testament. The Scriptures is what the people of Jerusalem, as well as those whom they called authorities, should look to in order to make a case for or against believing that Jesus was the Christ. Instead they were using deductive reasoning.
They were thinking 1. They want to kill Him. 2. He speaks openly. 3. They do nothing. Therefore they must know He is the Christ. Then Jesus actually answers them and says they do know Him and where He came from but they didn't know the One who sent Him. The strangest thing happened after that, some set out to arrest Him and yet others believed. In the end there will be no one on the fence, either you believe Jesus is the Christ or you reject Him as such but NO ONE will be given mercy for being indifferent. Let us pray for our loved ones, friends and even enemies. That they would get on the other side of, or off the fence and believe that Jesus is the Christ. Together we could thank God for His mercy and grace for all eternity. Have a great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
