Revelation 1:12-20 12 I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me. When I turned I saw seven gold lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was One like the Son of Man, dressed in a long robe and with a gold sash wrapped around His chest. 14 His head and hair were white like wool—white as snow—and His eyes like a fiery flame. 15 His feet were like fine bronze as it is fired in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of cascading waters.16 He had seven stars in His right hand; a sharp double-edged sword came from His mouth, and His face was shining like the sun at midday. 17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. He laid His right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last,18 and the Living One. I was dead, but look—I am alive forever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and Hades. 19 Therefore write what you have seen, what is, and what will take place after this. 20 The secret of the seven stars you saw in My right hand and of the seven gold lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. National Treasure is a fun movie to watch. It's full of mystery, symbolism and history. The best part is that these mysteries are explained. I admit we are a bit spoiled nowadays and everything is instant. We don't even have to wait for the next episode of our favorite TV show anymore we can just binge watch entire seasons on netflix, hulu even youtube now.
About 600 years after the time of Daniel, the Apostle John was given his vision of the Son of Man. Their visions were full of mystery, symbolism and future history and explained right away as well. They were very similar and and both were of Jesus Christ. Daniel's vision included the coming four kingdoms represented by some hybrid animal/man fierce images. In the middle of that we are introduced to this Son of Man and from the description we are to understand that this person was no ordinary ruler and not just a man. "I saw One like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was escorted before Him. He was given authority to rule, and glory, and a kingdom; so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13-14 The book of Daniel actually lays out for us Jesus' first and second coming, His death and resurrection and the resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous at the end of the age but it is still veiled in mystery a little. Knowing what we do on this side of the Cross and what Daniel and John wrote makes the picture of Jesus clearer and easy to understand. What we know about Jesus will impact how we handle what He says to us and how we receive it. Each one of these 7 specific and symbolic descriptions of Him play a special role in what He writes to the 7 churches. I'll explain what each one means and how they are related to the 7 letters to 7 churches in our blog posts this coming week. Have great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
