Revelation 1:4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. This past Sunday Kaleb commented that it seems like God the Father was highlighted in the Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament. I would agree and add that the Holy Spirit seems to be highlighted from the book of Acts through to Revelation. But the truth is that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are always working together, they do not work independently of each other. They are in perfect harmony and unity.
John mentions all the persons of the Trinity here in verse 4. First the Father, he calls the I AM. We wouldn't recognize it in our English language but the order in which he says it shows it as well. John does not say, the One who was and is and is to come which flows naturally but rather starts with the One who is, The I AM. The Name given by God to Moses as His memorial name forever. John them mentions the Holy Spirit as the seven Spirits who are before His throne. Other translations say the sevenfold Spirit, making a little bit easier to understand. He is not saying there are seven individual Spirits but rather One Spirit that extends to the seven churches like a menorah has one stem and extends out to multiple lights. The number 7 is that of fullness or completeness. He is the Spirit that empowers the 7 seven churches. Then John mentions Jesus Christ which means God's salvation the Savior. He is the Word of God and the faithful revealer of the Father, raised from the dead never to die again, and the rightful ruler. John doesn't say of the people of earth which He is but rather the ruler of the kings of the earth. Today as you go about your day, remember our good God who is greater than all, the Holy Spirit who lives in you and Jesus Christ who not only saved us and promises to raise us up on the last day but also rules our rulers. From president down to principals and parents He is in absolute control. Have a great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
