Revelation 5:1-4 Holman Christian Standard Bible 5 Then I saw in the right hand of the One seated on the throne a scroll with writing on the inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 I also saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or even to look in it. 4 And I cried and cried because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or even to look in it. Who doesn't like to watch a good courtroom drama. To see the case unfold and find out new details, hear testimonies and to watch as evidence is revealed is all fascinating. But the moment everybody is waiting for is that final sentencing which will not happen until the jury foreman gives the bailiff the note with the their decision and he hands it the judge. There is usually a moment of silence then and just after the note is read there is an uproar of mixed emotions in the courthouse. Some are elated while others are devastated but one thing is for sure, no one is indifferent. They were all there with time, money and emotion all invested in the outcome.
For me, the scroll introduced here in chapter 5 is that piece of paper. Only the judgement is neither handed down by the jury nor handed to the judge rather it is already decided by the judge and He has it in hand. One of the reasons those in the courtroom are so eager to hear the judgement is because they have been wronged and they want to see justice served on their behalf. The thing is, it will not happen until the judge opens the note and reads it out loud then what was written will come to pass. This is why John, "cried and cried because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or even to look in it." God's judgement is sure and in His hand. His judgement did not come by a jury of our peers and will not be determined after much deliberation. God Himself is the Righteous Judge and has already written down His judgments. They wait in His right hand until the day He decides it's time for them to be opened. When ?He does decide they will all come to pass just as He determined beforehand. That day there will be an uproar of emotion, some will be elated while others devastated. What we will feel that day is determined today at the foot of the cross. Have you received by faith the blood payment Jesus paid on behalf of sinners for the forgiveness of sin? Jesus was judged so that those who are in Him could stand before the Father forgiven. There are only two types of people in this world- 1. Those waiting to be judged by their own works and 2. Those who will be judged according to the finished work of Jesus Christ. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 Have a great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
