You may be wondering, why the strange gif with the giraffe message? It's because our passage today tells us that Jesus hand picked 12 Apostles. An apostle is someone who is sent, that is why I picked the gif with the giraffe who, in a sense, is the apostle.
Apostle is generic term meaning "sent one" but in our passage today, Jesus calls to Himself the twelve Apostles. I use the capitol "a" because they were a specific 12. These twelve, as the passage says, "that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach and have authority to cast out demons." So while Jesus may have had many disciples, He only had the twelve Apostles. These twelve were made mostly of fisherman and small town men. Two sets of them where brothers and James and John were believed to be Jesus' cousins. Only one, Judas who would betray Jesus, was from the big city of Jerusalem. So there we have it, Jesus chose His twelve Apostles. We too can be considered His apostles but with a small "a". We also have authority and are called to share the good news. Some have even cast out demons but we do not live in Jesus' time. We are unable to follow Him physically and with first hand knowledge share about Jesus. That is why they were called and why we have our Bible today. If you are a follower of Jesus, walk with confidence today, knowing you have authority and are called to share the Good News with anyone you're bold enough to share it with or who asks you for the reason of the hope you have inside. Today just may be the day that you are called to do just that. Have a great day Loved Ones and God bless you real good!
